Congratulations! If you have successfully registered for NYSC 2026 Batch B or C, the next step is to prepare for camp. Getting your documents and kits ready early will save you stress and extra costs at Mangu, Wailo and other camps.
NYSC camp is 21 days of regimented training. Many prospective corps members wait till the last minute and end up buying things at double prices inside camp Mammy market.

Important Documents To Carry To Camp
Without these, you will be turned back or delayed at the gate. Put originals in file and photocopies separately.
1. Call-up Letter: Print in color from NYSC portal dashboard. Do not laminate. This is your entry ticket. You need it for registration and to collect your NYSC kits. Print 4 copies.
2. Statement of Result / Certificate: Original + 4 photocopies. If your school has not issued certificate, statement is accepted. Ensure it has your full name matching JAMB.
3. School ID Card: Original + 4 photocopies. If lost, get affidavit and school attestation letter. Some camps are strict about this.
4. NIN / National ID: Print NIN slip. Many camps now verify NIN. Also compulsory for 2026 Batch due to new verification policy.
5. Green Card: Print 2 copies from NYSC portal after payment. This is proof of registration. Keep one for file.
6. Passport Photographs: At least 12 copies, white background. You will need them for file, ID card, bank account opening in camp. Carry extra.
7. Medical Fitness Certificate: Get from government hospital — not private clinic. Required for strenuous activities. If you have chronic condition (asthma, ulcer, sickle cell), get detailed medical report to apply for exemption or redeployment on health grounds.
NYSC Kits And Things To Buy Before Camp
NYSC will give you 2 white t-shirts, 2 shorts, crested vest, cap, belt, jungle boots, socks and khaki trouser. But quality is low and sizes may not fit. Smart PCMs buy extras outside.
Clothing (Most Important): White round-neck T-shirts x4-6 (thick), White shorts x3-4 (not transparent), White socks x4-6 pairs (long), White sneakers / tennis shoes (compulsory for parade), Jungle boots (buy original in Terminus market Jos, not Mammy), Crested vest extra, Tracksuit for morning, Cardigan for Plateau cold nights, Duvet or thick blanket (Mangu camp is very cold), Rubber slippers.
Toiletries & Hygiene: Small bucket with cover (theft is common), Detergent (small sachets), Bath soap, Sponge, Towel (medium), Toothbrush and paste, Sanitary pads (enough for 3 weeks), Roll-on, Body cream small, Tissue paper, Bucket bathing soap dish.
Essentials That Save You: Power bank 20,000mAh+ (light is limited), Torchlight / rechargeable lamp, Padlock x2 (for box and locker), Food flask + spoon, Water bottle, ATM card (activate for transfer), Cash ₦30k-₦50k (not more, break into small denominations), Small extension box, Waist pouch to hide money and phone, Mosquito net and insecticide (camp has mosquitoes), Handkerchief, Face cap extra.
Tip: Buy jungle boots and white vests before camp in Jos Main Market or online. Inside camp they sell at ₦15k vs ₦8k outside.
Important Notes Before You Travel To Camp
1. Check your camp address early: Know your state of deployment early. If deployed to Plateau, camp is at Permanent Orientation Camp, Mangu, Mangu LGA. If to Bauchi, Wailo camp. Check NYSC portal for address.
2. Avoid night travel: NYSC advises against night journey due to insecurity. Use NYSC-approved transport, NURTW parks, or state direct buses. Leave a day early.
3. Money plan: Go with at least ₦30,000 for feeding and extras. Camp food is free but many PCMs supplement at Mammy. Also need money for passport photos, photocopies in camp.
4. Health: If you have health issues, get medical report from teaching hospital. It helps with exemption from parade and possible redeployment. Carry your drugs.
5. Join official groups: Get updates from your state NYSC WhatsApp/Telegram group but avoid scammers promising PPA or redeployment for money. Only NYSC officials can redeploy.
M2NICE Camp Survival Tip for Jos PCMs: Plateau Mangu camp is one of the coldest in Nigeria. If posted there, pack cardigan, thick socks, and duvet. Morning devotion is 4:30am and very cold. Also, water is scarce — bucket helps. Keep phone and power bank locked always. Be humble, make friends, and avoid argument with soldiers. 21 days will pass fast.
