Plateau Condemns Fresh Attacks

The Plateau State Government has condemned fresh security breaches in Mangu and Jos South Local Government Areas, urging residents to remain calm, avoid reprisal attacks and support ongoing peace operations.

The condemnation was made during a press briefing in Jos by Mr. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to Governor Caleb Mutfwang. He said the government is deeply concerned about the renewed tension and is working to prevent escalation.

According to the state government, security agencies have been directed to intensify operations, increase patrols and restore confidence in the affected communities.

Government Condemns Attacks In Mangu And Jos South

Mr. Bere stated that the incidents are unfortunate and do not reflect the peaceful nature and hospitality of Plateau people. He called on community leaders, religious leaders, youth leaders and traditional rulers to help preach peace and tolerance.

The government warned against taking the law into one's own hands. It said any form of retaliation will only escalate the crisis, cause more hardship and undermine efforts to find lasting peace on the Plateau.

Residents were advised to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to enable quick response and arrest of perpetrators, using the state emergency lines and community security structures.

Security Agencies Directed To Act

The Governor has ordered increased patrols, night surveillance and intelligence-led operations in all vulnerable communities across the two LGAs. Joint security teams comprising police, Operation Safe Haven and civil defence are already on ground conducting confidence-building patrols.

The state government assured citizens that it is working closely with federal security agencies, including the Defence Headquarters and Police Zone 4, to fish out those behind the attacks and ensure they face justice.

Governor Mutfwang reiterated his administration's commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents regardless of tribe, religion or political affiliation, and said no one will be left behind in security arrangements.

Call For Peace And Unity

The government appealed to Plateau people to continue to live together in peace and resist any attempt to divide them along ethnic or religious lines by crisis merchants. Plateau's strength is its diversity, the statement added.

Citizens were also urged to go about their lawful businesses while remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious movements to authorities. Markets, schools and places of worship remain open with enhanced security.

The state government promised to support affected families and ensure that those displaced are properly taken care of through the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) with food, mattresses and medical support.
