President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about four weeks in Europe on a working vacation.
Presidential jet, Nigerian Air Force One, landed at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday evening, September 29, 2026, at about 6:22 p.m.
Tinubu Back After London And Paris Trip
President Tinubu left Abuja on August 30 for what the Presidency described as a three-week working vacation. He first spent about a week in London before proceeding to Paris.
While in Paris, the President met with French President Emmanuel Macron, held talks with business leader Vincent Bolloré, and attended a private dinner with billionaire businessman Femi Otedola. The Presidency later extended the trip by a few days before confirming his return for Tuesday, September 29.
“The Eagle Has Landed — President Tinubu is back in Lagos,”
Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, D. Olusegun, announced the return on X, sharing video footage of the president disembarking the jet and being received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and other top officials.
Why Lagos And Not Abuja
According to the Federal Ministry of Information, President Tinubu will remain in Lagos for Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1. He is scheduled to attend the premiere of a documentary on late Chief MKO Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
The documentary, directed by Ose Oyamendan, chronicles Abiola’s life, the annulled June 12, 1993 election, and Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle.
M2NICE Editorial Note: This is the freshest political story in Nigeria today. Tinubu’s return is significant because he missed the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, and Nigerians were asking about his whereabouts. His choice to land in Lagos for Independence activities is also strategic, linking his administration to the June 12 legacy.
