The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has given Defence Minister, General Christopher Musa (Rtd.) a seven-day ultimatum to provide evidence backing his allegation that the former governor planned killings in Southern Kaduna.
The demand follows comments made by the Defence Minister during a live appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on September 3, 2026.
What Musa Alleged
During the programme, General Musa accused El-Rufai of “actively planning killings in Southern Kaduna” while serving as governor. He also alleged that the former governor divided the state along regional lines and had publicly admitted to paying bandits.
“El-Rufai did a lot of terrible things in Kaduna state. He divided the state into two,” Musa said on the programme.
El-Rufai Family’s Response
In a statement issued on Monday, September 7, 2026 in Abuja and signed by Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on behalf of the family, the El-Rufais rejected the claims as “serious allegations made without supporting evidence.”
The family said public figures are entitled to their opinions, but accusations involving killings must be backed by credible and verifiable evidence.
“An allegation of this magnitude should not be made without evidence capable of substantiating it,” the statement read.
The 7-Day Ultimatum
The family challenged the Defence Minister to either:
- Present evidence supporting his claim, OR
- Publicly withdraw the allegation and issue a full apology through the same television platform where it was made.
The family gave Musa seven days from September 7 to comply. It warned that failure to do so would result in legal action.
“If the minister neither provides evidence nor retracts the allegation, the family will pursue all appropriate legal remedies available under the law,” the statement added.
El-Rufai remains a prominent opposition figure and a leader within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
